I think all of us are thinking about being “green” more than ever. Maybe we can’t all buy hybrid cars, put solar panels up, or buy only local/organic…but I truly believe that every little thing we do can make a difference in the long run.
In the last week I have called three random catalogs to get our names taken off the mailing list (we started receiving them not long after being back in the states. There is only one of them that I requested, and I thought it was a one time thing. I should have done this months ago, but its better to do it now than never. Hello, all of the products in catalogs are on the companies web sites. There is pretty much no reason to send out a catalog. And if you don’t have internet access, chances are you probably don’t need to be buying things out of catalogs anyway.
BTW, I signed up to NOT receive the phone book…but still got one anyway. I’m not sure why…maybe it wasn’t a legitimate site, or maybe they have to give them to everyone in military housing???
I have decided to never order a magazine subscription again. Sometimes they are nice to look at and have interesting information, but I don’t think its worth the cost of cutting down so many trees.
For my “persuasive” speech I have decided to do it on “simply ways all everyone can be more green.” I think more people don’t bother because they think you have to take drastic measures!
*****UPDATE*****
Well, kinda. I wrote this earlier today (yesterday) and “scheduled” it to be posted tomorrow (today) because I had already posted once today (yesterday)…and figured it would seem like I’m blogging more this way!
Anyway, after receiving the mail today, I called and canceld three more items from getting delivered to us; the BX flyer, a tempur-pedic sales flyer, and a random section of the newspaper that they send us every week and I never look at! I’m very proud of myself! All those advertisements and papers really do add up!

I read about this once and think it is a wonderful idea. Personally I hate getting most of those ridiculous magazines to begin with. I will have to be on top of this when we move.
